An offseason that created a lot of promise in New York has yet to be put to the test due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has rocked the entire sports world. Baseball season should be well under way entering the second full month of the regular season, but instead is stuck wondering whether they will ever get the chance to hit the field this year. The most popular solution for getting the season started is to split the league into two halves and put one half in Arizona and one half in Florida playing in the spring training stadiums. Recently it has come out that we could see this model as soon as mid-late June so they can salvage most of the season. This however would be without fans and the teams would have to live in these areas for however long the season ended up being to cut down on travel. Another thing to pay close attention to is how reopening baseball leagues goes for international leagues like the Korean League that is going to open up and be televised starting this week.

As for the Yankees specifically if there is any way to play and have some resemblance of a season it should be one that sees a lot of success and a legit shot at the world series title. New additions such as Garrett Cole and a very healthy roster make the Yankees perhaps the most dangerous team in the American League. With the American League East getting weaker and the Houston Astros losing Garrett Cole and getting hit with the aftermath of their cheating scandal it seems as though the Yankees will have to look over at the National League and the LA Dodgers as the team that is standing in the way of their title hopes.

This calendar year will go down as one of the most memorable in baseball history and there hasn't even been any games played. From the Astros cheating scandal to now the delay of play due to the coronavirus, a season to forget for many will not soon be forgotten. As a baseball fan I do hope that this is figured out and we can see some baseball this season as long as it is done in a safe and smart manner. Even getting to play half the season with a full postseason would be an incredible accomplishment and much needed relief from the stress and hardships this situation has caused.
