On January 22nd the 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees were announced. Included in the selections was former New York Yankees captain and shortstop Derek Jeter. There was a little bit of controversy revolving Jeter’s selection as he was regarded as a unanimous selection to the hall of fame. This did not end up being the case as Jeter only received 99.7% of the votes which means there was one voter who did not believe Derek Jeter deserved to make it this time around. Although this created some controversy there was no doubt in New York that the captain of five World Series champion teams deserves to live on in infamy as a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. To go along with his five World Series titles Jeter was also a 14-time all-star selection, five-time gold glover and is sixth all time in hits in MLB history. Derek Jeter was the second member of the “core four” of Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter to be selected to the Hall of Fame as Rivera was the first ever unanimous selection just last year. It is important that careers like the one that Jeter had are celebrated and appreciated properly. It is rare to see someone deliver day in and day out for 18 seasons on and off the field with no blemishes or errors. He is the definition of a great example and he demonstrated what it took to be a Yankee and a professional since the day he was drafted.
