The Iona Women’s basketball team went on 12-0 run to begin the game. It took Siena until the three-minute mark of the first quarter to score their first points of the night. Morgan Rachu came out hot early hitting two three pointers in a row to open the game.
Siena did not score a field goal the whole first quarter. Their first field goal came on the first possession of the second quarter from an Amari Anthony leaner. Iona would make a few scoring runs in the first half to stretch the lead to 17 at half time.
The third would see both teams go back and forth and trade scoring runs. Iona would lead by 19 at one point, which was its largest of the game. Both teams struggled to find consistent offense in the third as just 22 combined points here score. 11 for each side. At the end of three, the score was 49-32 Gaels on top.
Siena would score back-to-back buckets to open the fourth quarter, cutting Iona’s lead to 3. Iona would weather the storm and stretch the lead back out to 17. Siena would not go away quietly making another run, which Iona would weather as well. The Gaels would hold on to win 57-48.
Rachu lead all scorers with 18 points on a game high six three-pointers. Monica Bearfield continued her strong play chipping in 14 of her own.
